In
life, there always seems to be Genuine and
Generic…. What is the difference….? Is
margarine butter? Is facial tissue always
Kleen-x?, Is a CD player a Discman?
They
are all very similar products, but
different. The pairs are often interchanged,
but are they the same. I would say not. Some
are the REAL thing, and some are wanna-be’s.
What makes the difference is what is on the
inside.
Even
though we may exchange the two words often,
butter and only butter is butter. The same
holds true for Eagle Scouts too.
There
are really two visions of Eagle Scouts. All
Eagles Scouts have done the needed tasks to
complete the award but some of them are
different on the inside. Some are more
genuine than others. What are the
differences?
The
first one is the genuine Eagle lives the
life of and Eagle Scout. He uses the skills
taught to him through Scouting and makes it
every part of their life. To be Trustworthy,
Loyal, Helpful and so on is what has become
a daily lifestyle without even knowing it.
To help others and to think of others first,
is common practice. The genuine Eagle Scout
LIVES by the Scout law….
The
generic Eagle Scout is one who earns his
award but does not really have what is
needed on the inside to make them genuine.
They may give themselves the fancy label,
talk about how they are genuine and how
great they are but the bottom line is, they
don’t live it in their actions. They boast
about how they accomplished their Eagle but
others don’t know it unless they are told.
A
genuine Eagle Scout does not have to tell
people they are the real thing cause they
see it in everything they do, words mean so
little compared to actions. It is rare that
butter has to brag about being butter, but
margarine does have to brag about being LIKE
butter. So the question you should ask
yourself, as an Eagle Scout, are you Generic
or Genuine?
You
be the judge.
